Cascina Val de Prete 2024 Luet Arneis
Characteristically understated and full, Luet begs for a second and third look. The full body is felt and masks the almost equally high acidity, don’t be fooled by the lack of mouth puckering that is just the body putting everything in balance. Lees aging is felt in the weight but not overbearingly so. About 12,000 bottles produced

A full white for when a dish classically pairs red but you need a white to stand up to the task.
Shellfish pasta or rich creamy cheese.
Centuries ago Roero was covered in water, think to this for pairings. Full enough to withstand poultry, oily seafood or the heaviest cheeses. This wine won’t cut through raw oysters but will show beautifully with roasted salmon.
Give your pairing some heft and you will reveal layers of complementary flavors often (unfortunately) overlooked by Arneis newcomeers. Seared scallops in brown butter with seasonal herb garnish? Absolutely.
This is a general guide to give you an idea where this wine falls in a spectrum of dish complexities.
Powerful game such as venison or lamb will overshadow this wine. Because it is fuller acidity isn’t on the forefront and won’t cut through the robust flavor.

Fresh, full whites will do wonderfully out of the bottle. Some secondary flavors will emerge with time in the class but no extra oxygenation is needed to full enjoy this bottle.
The correct serving temperature is important to show a wine’s true potential, but don’t stress over getting the temp exactly right. Use the chart below to try to get in the right ballpark.
If a wine has been released by the producer and is available for sale, it means it is ready to drink. Wines don’t necessarily get “better” with age, they just change. Typically, this change involves things like losing fresh fruit flavors in exchange for more savory notes.
The moment you should open the bottle depends on your preference, so it’s more important to understand the evolution and the life span of the bottle than it is to try to time its opening perfectly. (It’s far better to open a bottle too early than too late.)

Cascina Val Del Prete is a leading grower in Roero, recognized for a commitment to natural farming and for traditional work in the cellar, utilizing techniques such as long maceration.
This type of farming and cellar work requires incredible commitment, but the resulting wines achieve another level of detail and age-worthiness that is quite simply lost or minimized with more modern techniques that tend to rush processes along. 20 to 30 years ago the family was chastised by their neighbors for their painstaking approach – today, some of the most respected names in Piedmont and of the “terroir driven,” wine scene speak highly of their work.
