Eastwood 2023 Meritage
With notes of dark cherry and spice on the nose, our 2023 Meritage is dry and medium-plus bodied with a complex palate. It has been aged for 20 months in a mix of French and American oak barrels.
It pairs wonderfully with savory meats & hearty dishes like roast chicken, pasta, risotto, grilled vegetables & mushrooms, potatoes and steak. Its delicate spice notes also pair well with apple pie and dark chocolate.
Grilled red meat, blue cheeses.
This Meritage reins in its acidity and tannins a bit to produce a more elegant, fruit forward wine that is packed with ripe fruit, earthy notes, and a hint spice on the finish.
Its lighter structure allows this wine to be a more versatile pairing option, but it will still do best with most grilled options, especially leaner cuts of meat like filet mignon and flank steak.
Mushroom risotto is also a great option to complement its underlying earthy notes as are rich, aged cheeses, especially blue cheeses.
STANDOUT FEATURES: Ripe fruit, soft tannins, round mouthfeel.
Anything too light like fish might get overpowered by this wine. At the same time, the fuller end of the spectrum like rich stews and sauces might not be the best option here.

Large Bordeaux or All-purpose glasses would be best.
There’s a lot of complexity in this bottle, and most of it will be missed if it doesn’t have time to open up.
You could probably get away with some generous swirling in your glass, but a decanter would definitely help this wine show off its full potential.
Generally you would want to decant a younger wine for longer to help it open up and be cautious of exposing older wines to oxygen for too long. There are always exceptions of course, but this is a pretty good rule to follow.
Minutes to decant this bottle:
The correct serving temperature is important to show a wine’s true potential, but don’t stress over getting the temp exactly right. Use the chart below to try to get in the right ballpark.
If a wine has been released by the producer, it means it is ready to drink. Wines don’t necessarily get “better” with age, they just change. Typically, this change involves things like losing fresh fruit flavors in exchange for more savory notes.
The moment you should open the bottle depends on your preference, so it’s more important to understand the evolution and the life span of the bottle than it is to try to time its opening perfectly. (It’s far better to open a bottle too early than too late.)

What happens when the talents and interests of three women – specifically a mother and two of her daughters – come together serendipitously? Sometimes it creates something magical. Athena Eastwood practiced as a commodities lawyer for twenty years and was recognized for her work helping agricultural and energy clients develop innovative strategies to combat and adapt to climate change.
When she purchased a small farm just outside of the city limits of Charlottesville in 2016, she was also teaching an environmental commodities class at the University of Virginia School of Law, where the discussion often turned to the importance of developing local infrastructure – including local agriculture. At the same time, her daughter, Hannah Velie, was practicing that very theory running a non-profit farm she started in a food desert in Baltimore. Athena’s oldest daughter, Megan Velie Taub, was also focused on making a local impact – just finishing a master’s degree in developmental psychology with an emphasis on American Dream research. During that course of study, she had become passionate about the critical role of small business in creating sustainable communities.
Over many shared meals and glasses of wine, the three women, along with Athena’s unstoppable partner Jeremy Christian, decided to join forces on a project in their own backyard. Eastwood Farm and Winery is now recognized as one of the fastest growing wineries of the Monticello Wine Trail.

Welcome to the Virginia Wine Collective by Eastwood Farm and Winery. Opened in May 2025, the Collective is a dynamic wine production facility and tasting room located in Charlottesville, just three miles from Eastwood.

The space brings together nine private winemaker suites, an incubator program, and a central production area. These suites provide independent winemakers with a home to anchor their licenses and craft their wines, all within a collaborative, supportive environment. By lowering the barriers to entry, the Collective aims to foster innovation, creativity, and emerging talent throughout the Monticello AVA.

The Eastwood Wine Club is a community established by wine enthusiasts for wine enthusiasts. The founders and members are dedicated to viticulture, agriculture, and truly enjoyable food and wine that can be shared with family and friends in all of the places we spend time together.
This is a 4-bottle club with quarterly allocations. The wines of each allocation are thoughtfully chosen by our founders and team. Each allocation includes a mix of whites and reds, with a few special rosés and sparkling wines throughout the year. We take seasonality into consideration with each allocation and highlight new releases and special occasions. Each allocation is announced a couple of weeks before the release date. At that time, club members have the option to login to their accounts and customize their allocations to their liking.
